Break Over?
Maybe! I spent the last couple weeks playing FO76 and WarThunder, but lost interest. I thought I'd pick up my crochet again, try and finish this outfit thingy, but that didn't take either. Then I finished up reference art for Orly Mosley, the first character Hal meets in the story. (not shown here)
I ran it by my sister, who is generally helpful with critiqueing, and I think I've got him all set. (image not shown)
Instead of continuing work on the characters I made an animated Swayze. Yeah. I know.
I did get myself to finally finalize a finished resolution on the last bit of gaming interface. I've got four scene types. The main one is Adventure Mode, a side-scroll platformer. That was always the plan, but this time I've reduced the character sizes to 16x32px. This should allow 5 actors on a scene, giving a bit more freedom of choice/action, and provide a little more dynamism per scene.
The other main scene is Journal Mode where we can see all the things Haladie has discovered (people, clues, facts, etc.). Each page will have descriptions and images so the player can see what's up.
A secondary scene I don't plan to utilize often is Investigate Mode. If you've ever played Goonies II, this will be a bit like that: a floating finger cursor that will poke things in the scene until something happens. I might consider adding a noise indicator for too much tapping or shuffling of items, if Hal is trying to be sneaky. I do plan on having item interaction in this mode, so an inventory item can be used on something in the scene.
Another secondary scene is Conversation Mode. This will have full sized characters (48x72px) with emotive faces and simple conversation options, as well as topics to choose from. I think I still want to apply Attitude meters like in Morrowind, where questions can irritate the characters or ingratiate them to Hal. It all depends! But that requires writing all the scripty dialoguey stuffs that I've avoided doing for the last eight months. Not sure how to inspire myself to write this, except to read up on Sir Doyle's and Adams' great mysteries.
So, four scene types. I've already created half of the Journal pages. The other half depends on a written story. I'm working on character animations now, with the hopes of creating in-town scenes for Adventure mode which will facilitate creating clues and timing of events.
Wish me luck. Leave a comment. Chat later
