A downloadable Haladie Sweete Project

Oh, wow. First project in 6 years! I'm not just hoping, but actively working on this one for real, now. Like, I wake up each morning, and have been for two weeks, and continue working on small things. I need to organize and strategize so I can develop this quickly. I think it's the art that is the hard part, haha

What do people normally put here? This isn't the blog portion, lol.

ABOUT

Okay, look, this game is a planned story in a series of unplanned games surrounding a new heroine detective, Haladie Sweete. She lives in muddy messy 1910's Seattle and runs a quietly successful investigation business using what she calls Systemic Procedural Investigation. She sees the deductive approach as limiting and instead follows an approach that views the whole of everything as part of the problem. A sort of theory of wholeness. She doesn’t think there’s a word for it yet, but the point is that everything in the universe is interconnected and anything could mean anything and nothing should be left to chance.

Which will be tricky to translate from a story to a game boy game.

Because of the interconnectedness of the whole general mish-mash.

Process

I don't have a process, so that's the difficult part of developing this. My ADHD doesn't seem to like when I want to do things unless I can hit that Flow State. Which I have been doing! For a few hours each morning, I've been able to sit and work eagerly on this project. I really want to see Haladie come to life and share her stories with everyone who likes stories. I just hope I'm able to tell it well enough to garner larger interest.

Art

I'm doing all the art myself, which makes this increasingly difficult. I checked some art in with my sister and she was a little confused about the chibi style... Oh, did I mention that yet? I tried my own style and I don't like it, so I tried chibi style and it looks fantastic.

Background art is also difficult, but since it's in 8x8px tiles, I can use Tiled to layout screens a bit easier.

Sounds

I'm likely to do the sound affects and music myself as well, since it's personal project and I'm doing it mostly for myself. I do want to have a completed project this year so I can feel accomplished. Fortunately, Game Boy Studio has a built in Music and Sound editor. Means I don't have to figure out how to import a midi from LMMS, haha. I'm sure there's a plugin, but the point is I don't have to use Yet Another Tool to do sounds. Yay!

Other?

I don't know! I've got story to hammer out, dialogue to develop, art to art, sound to sound, and logic to process. Wish me luck! Or don't, I'm not sure how much encouragement I actually want this go around.
